The Annual Beach Boogie and BBQ will return to the Market Common on August 29th and 30th. The ninth installment of the festival, also known as the Official BBQ Championship of South Carolina, will benefit the Shriner’s Hospital of Greenville SC. This is a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned event, so you know there will be plenty of mouth-watering smoked meat for all to enjoy. Admission to the Beach Boogie and BBQ is free, and there will be a multitude of food, art and crafts, non-profit and other vendor exhibits to browse, as well as a “cornhole” tournament, several competitions, and more.

The festival kicks off Friday night at 6:00 PM with three simultaneous competitions. In “Burgers ‘N’ Brews” event, competitors will be cooking their best burger recipes in hopes of winning a $500 grand prize. These handmade burgers will be available for purchase, along with a wide variety of regionally brewed beers and other beverages. The other two events are Wing Competition and the ever-popular “Anything But” Competition. Similar to the burger competition, teams will be competing for prize money with their best recipes, and festival-goers can purchase the finished products. What exactly is the “Anything But” Competition? Anything but pork, of course!

In addition to these three cooking competitions (which take place until 8:00 PM), live entertainment on the main stage will be provided by Matt Parker & the Deacons and the Austin Mowery Band from 6:00-10:00 PM. The vendors, exhibits, beer garden, and kid’s activities (including a rock climbing wall and dunk tank) will also during those hours as well.

Saturday is packed full of festivities, kicking off at noon and going strong until 10:00 PM. The KCBS BBQ Championship starts at noon and includes four meat categories. Guests can purchase wristbands for $10.00 that will allow them to sample the delicious barbeque from the competing teams. Children under six can sample for free, and various sandwiches and platters can also be purchased. In addition to the championship, attendees can watch the Cornhole competition, admire the classic cars at the Myrtle Beach Car Club Cruise-In, watch the “Kids Q” competition, and enjoy live entertainment on the main stage. The vendors, exhibits, kids’ activities, and beer garden also return on Saturday. The evening will wrap up with a fantastic fireworks display beginning at 9:30 PM.
